Why focus on Allyship while celebrating International Women’s Day?

8 March 2025

Why do I work with Men on Mental Health, Masculinity and Allyship and what is it for?

It was great to celebrate International Women’s Day on 8 March. The United Nations’ Official Theme was “For all women and girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment” but even in the UK there is so much to do.

I have worked with some incredible women across multiple organisations and they are amazing role models, leaders and team-members. Thank you for being amazing.

But there are injustices that need resolving. Women are still not treated equally in the workspace. The pay gap is real. Harassment still occurs. Women are judged on looks and dress sense. Language, attitudes and behaviours toward women can be bad.

But women don’t put this on themselves, it’s the men in the room who set limits, control pay, set behaviours and leadership tone, and continue to harass.

I stand as an ally for all under-represented groups, but my work with men and masculinity is all about helping men look after our own mental health and wellbeing, understanding our behaviours and the impact, and then becoming better allies in the workplace.
